Can I train my two year old bloodhound to track for search and rescue?
She is very playful and energetic and I wanted to train her to track for our local search and rescue. Is she too old for this?
No way! She is still a young dog and you can teach her, and serch and rescue is great for bloodhounds as well so it shouldn’t be hard at all! It will be a great way for you and your dog to bond and its great exercise for her.

Do bloodhounds drool?
My dad is very strict on one pet. So when I asked him for a second dog, imagine my surprise when he said yes right away! We were looking at the dogs on the internet, and my dad wants a bloodhound! My mom wants to know if they drool.
Any dog with big flappy jowls will drool because they can’t really keep their saliva in properly. However, there are other dogs with no flappy jowls that will drool too. It depends from dog to dog. Some are just natural “droolers”.

Who is the actor that has kind of a droopy, dog-looking face?
My husband and I were in a bakery in Portland, Oregon on Thursday and in walked a character actor (possibly a commercial actor) that we both instantly recognized but cannot place. He has greyish / white hair, kind of spiky – definitely in his 60’s. The part that we remember him playing is someone with a droopy looking face – droopy like a bloodhound or beagle. We think he was wearing a shirt and tie in whatever we have seen him in. We think he plays slow-talking, Ben Stein-type parts.
The touring Phantom of the Opera show is playing in Portland – we wondered if he is a cast extra or maybe a director. The tour website only lists the main characters. Any idea who this could be?? Ring any bells?
The only one I can think of is the guy who played Mr. Big in Sex and the City, and
Law and Order… he kinda has a dog face like described, but he’s cute so… lol

New designer cross bred dogs – what do you think of these ones?
I thought this might give you a laugh…
TONGUE IN CHEEK
It is reported that a ‘Worldly’ Kennel Club has decided
to recognize the following ‘New Breeds of Dog’ resulting
from cross-breeding:-
Collie + Lhaso Apso: Collapso, a dog that folds up for
easy transport.
Spitz + Chow Chow: Spitz-Chow, a dog that throws up
a lot.
Bloodhound + Borzoi: Bloody Bore, a dog that is not
much fun.
Kerry Blue Terrier + Skye Terrier: Blue Skye, a dog for
visionaries (should do well in UK!).
Pekinese + Lhaso Apso: Peekasso, an abstract dog.
Labrador Retriever + Curly Coated Retriever: Lab Coat
Retriever, the choice of research scientists.
Newfoundland + Labrador: Blabrador, a dog that barks
incessantly.
Malamute + Pointer: Moot Point, owned by? Oh well, it
doesn’t matter anyway.
Collie + Malamute: Commute, a dog that travels to
work.
Deerhound + Terrier: Derriere, a dog that’s true to the
end
Have you got any of your own to add?
Don’t laugh… we have a client that wants to cross her pit bull with her shih tzu and sell the aforementioned bull-you know what. Sigh.
Tibetan Mastiff + Chihuaha = Thai Chi
