poodle grooming?

i want a poodle but i dont want it to have a big buffant on top of its head or look like one of those show dogs, id prefer it tobe furry all over, will i be able to groom the dog to stay like this?

Poodle can be groomed in any style the owner wants. You can look up pictures on the web for poodle styles and pick and choose the head style, face style, body style you want…like mix and match. You can also go to a groomer ahead of scheduling an appointment and see if they have books or pictures. I have been grooming for over 30 yrs, 16 yrs professionally and poodles are great fun to groom because of all the styles. BUT make sure you get your puppy or dog use to being handled and groomed right away, a will behaved dog is easier to groom…you will have to brush at home between groomings. Depending on the lenghth you want to keep depends on how often you must brush, the longer the hair the more brushing. Long coats every day or every other day, short coats every 3 days, really short once a week. If the coat is really short you only need a stiff bristle brush, if the coat is left longer you need a slicker brush. Brush the coat up from feet up to head, then brush a little hair down at a time, you want to see the skin, like a part (this is line brushing) that way you don’t miss any hair. Poodle do mat (knot) if you don’t brush and a matted poodle has to be clipped short and if its really matted the groomer may have to shave really short. After you brush you should also comb the coat with a greyhound comb. Make sure you get the ears and right behind them…ears mat fast. Put you poodle on a good grooming schedule with the groomer…every 4-8 wks depending on style and length.
