Staying there next month.
What should I avoid, what should I definitely not avoid.
Well I haven’t stayed there personally but do know of the reputation – loud, busy and literally just a place to sleep (if you are lucky!) and pretty much focused towards the “weed” based tourists – but it is cheap to average price, and in a good location which makes it pretty popular.
A good way to check out hostels/hotels in advance is to find a decent site which has reviews of people who have stayed there and can enter them online (without being moderated).
Hostelworld is a good one for this and the reviews are mixed http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/The-Bulldog/Amsterdam/644/reviews/ and Trip advisor has some as well http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g188590-d239453-Reviews-Bulldog_Budget_Hotel-Amsterdam_Noord_Holland.html
Based on this, you can have a read and see if this is the kind of place that would suit you personally.

Snoop Dogg’s Favorite Coffeeshop: The Bulldog Amsterdam
Hello I’m Ben Parker. I created this site because I love dogs. And believe that it is our job as humans to care for the animals on this planet. But mostly what I see is abuse and neglect. The biggest one that I see is the food we feed our pets. Did you know that most of the food we feed our dogs (or we get from the store) is made of corn.
Dogs can’t digest corn and it has petroliem products in it, as in the same stuff they make gasoline out of. Dogs can live 20 or more years, but they don’t because the food they eat slowly poisions them. Any way sorry to go off on a tangent, I just passionate about taking car of our dogs the right way.
