Wearing a poodle skirt for halloween…what kind of shirt and accessories should I go with?
I sounds stupid…but I just want to be as cute and authentic as possible…ideas on what shirt and accessories to have would be great. Thanks SO much!!
It kinda depends on the color of the skirt, but I would say maybe a white button down, short sleeve, collared shirt. Loafers for the shoes, the kind with the penny slots if you can find them. For the jewelry I would suggest plastic bangle type bracelets. You might try re-sale shops.
A few years ago I made a poodle skirt for a friend of mine to wear at Halloween, and I made little people skirts for her two poodles.
You’ve waited fifteen long years for this day to finally come and jubilation is hardly the word.
The time has finally arrived for you to shed your adolescent skin and cross the threshold into young adulthood. But before you make that transition, you must first throw the biggest and most spectacular sweet sixteen party this world has ever seen!
The first thing you’ll need to do before ordering the white tigers, ice sculptures, and chandeliers is to find a stunning dress to sport. Hopefully you already have your measurements and have given yourself a little bit of time, no matter how short the window, to find the right fantasy dress that works.
One good idea that you may want to consider is dressing up as Maleficent, the villainous character from the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty. A black corseted velvet gown with a touch of silver on the silver panel, sheer sleeve drapes, an attached veil and a crown headpiece is a nice dark look that is guaranteed to turn heads.
Another suggestion would be to time travel back to the 50’s (Mom and Dad will enjoy this) and dress as a poodle babe. This is as simple as a one piece red and black dress- or another color of your choosing- that reaches down to your ankles, with a poodle applique and a sequin belt. Add to the costume some nice dancing shoes and you will be ready to hit the dance floor to cut-a-rug for the party.
Or if you want to be a bit controversial, perhaps dressing up as a moll gangster will give you that rebellious edge you are searching for. A pinstriped jacket, pants and black tie is what you will need. Grab a hat, some matching shows, accessories (If you want to add them) and a fake Tommy gun and you will be ready to outrun the coppers in no time.
If the gangster look is not what you want however, consider getting ‘batty’ this year and go as Bat Girl! A mini-dress with a yellow bat logo, gloves, an eye mask, attached black cape, yellow vinyl belt and black knee boots will have you ready to fly through the city of Gotham looking to protect all the citizens from that pesky joker.
An Atlantis Queen is also another unique and fun fantasy dress option. Become the Queen of the seas while wearing a gorgeous silk gown with gold accents and flowing, cut-away sleeves. Add to it a headband and your appearance will be most stunning.
Hopefully these sweet sixteen party dress ideas will help you in your quest for the perfect costume to wear. These are just a few of many dresses and/or costumes that are sitting inside many shops right now, lonely, and just waiting for your arrival. Once you find what works best for you, its time to put on your number, go to the party and enjoy being newly sixteen!
While the holiday season is a fun time for friends and family, it can be a hazardous time for your pet poodle. During any holiday, and especially the “end of year” holidays, it is important to take care to insure that your pet is safe.
Holidays call for special foods and treats, but these foods can be dangerous to your Poodle. While you may want to share Aunt Lulu’s famous gravy soaked potatoes or that Swiss chocolate that you got from cousin Betty, you should be aware that not all “people” food is good for your pet and some, like chocolate, can be deadly. When feeding your poodle, it is probably best to stick to his regular food, or buy some holiday treats made especially for dogs.
Another very important thing to remember during the holidays is that your vet may have different hours so make sure you check your vet’s holiday hours and emergency contacts and have the information easily accessible.
Take precautions when decorating with plants. Your Poodle may chew on household plants, and many, including mistletoe and some poinsettias, can make your pet very ill. Make sure your holiday greenery is out of your reach.
The Christmas tree is another are that should be carefully set up. If you have a real tree, be sure that your Poodle cannot drink the water or chew the branches. Many modern live trees have been sprayed with chemicals that may be toxic to your little friends.
Depending on how active your dog is, you may want to use only unbreakable decorations at the bottom of your tree, so there is no danger of your dog jumping up or rubbing against them and resulting in broken glass on the floor that he can cut himself on, or worse, digest.
Candles are another hazard around the holidays. Be very very careful if you have lit candles around your Poodle. Expecially if your pet is easily excitable as he may jump up and knock one over! Place glass “hurricane lanterns” or other attractive covers over candles to protect your home and your pets and never leave your pet unattended with candles in the room.
New Years Eve is a fun time for all, but your little Poodle might become frightened by the traditional firecrackers and other noisy merriment. Some dogs may be severely traumatized by fireworks, be sure to leave them inside if you go out to celebrate. If you are having people over, make sure you put your Poodle in a safe and comfortable place away from the party fun.
Poodles can be sensitive and yours may get anxious about the changes in household routine during the holidays, especially if you are stressed yourself. Some dogs respond to stress by becoming hyper or hysterical, and some simply retreat. Keep a close eye on your pet during this time to note any changes in behaviour.
Your pet poodle can bring an added element of joy to any holiday – keep him safe so that you can enjoy many holidays to come!

Hello I’m Ben Parker. I created this site because I love dogs. And believe that it is our job as humans to care for the animals on this planet. But mostly what I see is abuse and neglect. The biggest one that I see is the food we feed our pets. Did you know that most of the food we feed our dogs (or we get from the store) is made of corn.
Dogs can’t digest corn and it has petroliem products in it, as in the same stuff they make gasoline out of. Dogs can live 20 or more years, but they don’t because the food they eat slowly poisions them. Any way sorry to go off on a tangent, I just passionate about taking car of our dogs the right way.
