Bloodhound.exploit.196 virus. what causes this virus?

I scanned my computer and it says there’s viruses… One of them was bloodhound.exploit.196.. whats the cause of getting that virus? And what damage could it do to your computer? I have windows XP family edition..My norton is expired so i cant remove it V_V any programs i can use?

Pidief IM is a piece of exploit spyware software. What this means is it searches for programs on your computer that may be easily breached, and will result in the installation of malware wherever possible in your computer. This is highly dangerous, because the malware that it will install can take control of your computer, and can record everything you type, including sensitive information such as bank account numbers, passwords, and other sensitive keys that you wouldn’t want thieves knowing about.

Pidief IM has a HIGH overall risk as of mid-July, 2009. It also has a HIGH rating for the damage it will do to your system. A secondary name for the spyware is Exploit.Win32.Pidief.im.
